README for hpa's SuperRescue version 2.1.1

			   6 November 2002

"The most overfeatured rescue disk ever created"
		      "Bloatware at its finest"

Requirements:

	i386 PC system
	24 MB RAM
Bootable CD-ROM (IDE or PCI SCSI recommended)
	80-minute CD-R blank

SuperRescue is a single very large bootable system-on-a-disk. It's
based on the observation that the vast majority of systems allow you
to do so much more than the minimal system. Therefore, it isn't for
everything, but for most desktop systems, it provides a much nicer
rescue environment than your average rescue floppy. This version
furthermore uses transparent compression to fit about 1.7 GB of
software onto a single CD in usable form.

NOTE: Version numbers differing only in a final letter (e.g. 1.2.1a
versus 1.2.1) matter only if you intend to make your own modified
versions of SuperRescue using the included build scripts; such version
increments do not matter if you use the disk as-is.

SuperRescue 2.1.1 is based on a subset of RedHat 7.2. The initrd is
based on binaries from RedHat 6.2. The source code for the binaries
on the system are available from Red Hat Software or your favourite
RedHat mirrors:

[GPL notice: this complies with section 3(c) of the GPL, version 2.]

For network cards, filesystems or disk controllers other than the ones
I normally use, you probably will find it necessary to explicitly load
modules; however, a good selection of compiled modules are included on
the disk.

This version of SuperRescue includes limited support for PCMCIA; if
you have a system with a bootable PCMCIA CD-ROM and are unable to boot
from this disc, please send a message.

X is by default configured to be 1024x768 using the VESA standard
monitor timings (60 Hz noninterlaced). It will attempt to autodetect
your video card. Use "Xconfigurator" to set any other configuration.

There is now a mailing list to discuss SuperRescue; if you have issues
or want info on new things, please see:

Cuba, Iran, Iraq, Libya, North Korea, Sudan or Syria.
